Welcome to 8-100

8-100 is a very unique building.  Take a minute to have a look around!

Front Entrace & Lobby:

The front entrance of the firehouse is where the monument for all Line of Duty Deaths from the old Prospect Street firehouse was relocated. Also once you get inside the main door to access the interor of the building is painted like all fire trucks. With the classic two tone red and white paint. Along with the indian head that is found on every piece of apparatus.

Apparatus Bays:

The apparatus bays house the Nanuet Fire Department fleet of vehicles and are also the focal point of drills and other training events.

Radio Room:

The radio room is the nerve center of the firehouse.  Here firefighters can communicate with fire control through the base station, log calls into the log book, and monitor the local police, EMS and other emergency services through the console scanner.  The home alerts as well as the fire whistle can also be controlled from here. With a full view of the apparatus bay and outside front apron this is one of the unique construction areas of the new firehouse.

Engineers' Area:

The engineers' areas are fully equipped with all the tools neccessary to service and maintain our fire trucks as well as almost all of our firefighting equipment.  Many in-house repairs are made here in order to keep our department in the upmost state of readiness at all times.

Firefighters' Gear Racks:

Located throughout the building, the firefighters' gear racks offer a small bit of personal space within the firehouse for each member.  While all firefighters are issued identical sets of protective gear, as you can see, small differences make each set personalized.  Firefighters are free to configure their protective gear on these racks however they see fit to make sure they can get "geared up" as quickly and efficiently as possible.

From the meeting room, the President presides over all business meetings.  This is also where the Board of Directors meet.

_______________________________________________________________________

Chiefs' Office:

The Chief and Assistant Chiefs, share an office on the second floor of the building.  The chiefs have a fit space from which to conduct their business and meet with their officers.

President's Office:

The President as well as his officers share this office directly off the meeting room floor.  From here, the President can access the Fire Company's computer system and members' files as well as meet with his officers in relative privacy.

GYM:

The new firehouse is also equipped with a full service gym for all members'. Here there is state of the art equipment so firefighters can stay in shape to preform the rigerous physical duties of the job of a firefighter.

Whistle:

The rear of main firehouse (8-100) is also home to a Nanuet Fire Department trademark.  In the 1940s, the current Federal Signal STH-10 Alert & Attack whistle was put into service.  It still sounds a single 15-second round everytime the station Quick-Call is activated by fire control.  Click here to listen to its very distinct sound, a Nanuet trademark!
