In 1998, the Nanuet Fire Department decided that it's current quarters were not sufficient enough to adaquately provide protection to its large district.  The decision was made to erect a new firehouse in the northeastern portion of the district.  The Bardonia substation (8-101) opened its doors on January 1st 1999.  Currently housing 8-1500 and the Nanuet Fire Engine Co. Antique truck 8-750, as well as hosting the Clarkstown Police Department's child safety seat inspections, the Bardonia substation has become an integral part of its community.

Past Nanuet Firehouses

The original home of Nanuet Fire Engine Co. was built in 1868. It was located near the intersection of Middletown Rd. and Church St. in the vacinity of the present Nanuet Resturant.

The second firehouse was built in 1911 and was located on Old Middletown Rd near the intersection with Middletown Rd, just yards from the original firehouse.  After the Nanuet Fire Engine Co. moved to their present quarters, this building was destroyed by fire in 1972.

The third firehouse was built on Prospect Street in downtown Nanuet. The original portion of this building was constructed between 1944 - 1946 and had only 2 bays.  For many years, the entire Nanuet Fire Department operated out of this building.  In 1965 the first of many additions was put onto this firehouse. A wide 3-truck section was added to the west side of the building, followed a few years later in 1969 by a final large bay designed for Nanuet's first ladder truck (8-75).  In 1978 the adjacent post office building was taken over and in the early 1990s converted into a final bay, completing the firehouse as seen below.
